Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of aircraft do you fly? -- All tours are operated with a Robinson R-44, a four-seat light helicopter produced by the Robinson Helicopter Company in California, USA. The R-44 is considered to be one of the safest helicopters in the industry and is the number one choice used for sightseeing operations around the world.

Are the pilots certified? --  All pilots are commercially rated and have passed rigorous FAA certifications, company testing, and recurrent training to be your tour pilot.

What is their safety record? --  They boast a 100% perfect safety record and take all possible precautions to ensure that it stays that way!

Are there any weight restrictions? --  Yes. The maximum weight per seat or per person is 300 lbs. The maximum total passenger weight for the flight is 600 lbs.

Can children come on the tour? --  Absolutely! Children of all ages can be accommodated. Children under 24 months can be seated on a parent’s lap, as long as the maximum weight limit is not exceeded. Children 24 months and older must have their own seat.

What should we wear? --  Wear comfortable clothing. T-shirts with shorts and sandals seem to be the most popular attire in Key West!

Can we bring a camera? --  Of course! All passengers are encouraged to bring cameras. Cameras with wide-angle lenses tend to work the best within the cockpit. Tele-photo lenses are also great for taking close-up photos of the marine life below.

Can we take bags in the helicopter? --  Any loose articles in the cockpit create a potential risk, therefore, for your own safety, there is a strict no bag policy in the helicopter. Only small medically necessary bags are allowed. All other bags must be stored in storage bins on the ground. This includes all camera bags (it actually works best to have your camera out and at the ready from the start of your tour than to have it tucked away when that perfect picture moment comes along).

What if the weather is bad on the day of our flight? --  While the weather in South Florida can often be unpredictable, most afternoon showers don't last more than 10 to 15 minutes. In the event that weather disrupts your scheduled flight, you will be permitted to reschedule.

Are there any restrictions on consuming alcohol before the flight? --  Passengers should limit their alcohol consumption prior to their departure. Pilots and staff reserve the right to refuse service to anyone based on their observance of any peculiar behaviors or attitude. Although Key West is one of the most alcohol-friendly towns in the nation, the safety of passengers and our pilots is the top priority.

Will I get motion sickness? --  This is a scenic tour, not a thrill ride. It is extremely rare for passengers to experience motion sickness. Flights are smooth, and turns are slow and gentle.

Minimum 2 persons per order. Maximum 3 persons per order. Hotel pickup not included. Maximum weight per seat is 300 pounds. Maximum total passenger weight is 600 pounds.
